From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Built on tradition and cultivated through excellence, we prepare for another year at PHS. As your dedicated principal, I write this message with great optimism that this upcoming year, the anniversary of our 60th graduating class, will be one of our finest yet. We remain committed to working alongside every individual student to meet his or her goals. We gladly accept the challenge as a community to empower our students, your sons and daughters, to exceed their own academic expectations while simultaneously carving out their own futures.

As we enter into year two of our Chromebook initiative, this 21st century model remains at the forefront of our enthusiasm for teaching and learning. We met all our initial goals last year. This included putting a device in the hands of every student, having 100 percent of the teaching force utilize Google Classroom, optimizing our wireless connectivity, and improving our "Go Green!" capacity. This year we move forward towards more rigorous depths of technological education. As a faculty, we understand that the new archetype of teaching and learning relies on a progressive staff that accepts the challenge of constant change and student-centered development as a standard.

It is my pleasure to announce a new administrative addition at PHS. Mr. Tom Montuori has replaced Dr. Pilacik in the role of assistant principal in charge of ninth and eleventh grades. Mr. Montuori is an extremely student-centered educator. The passion, energy, and mindfulness that drive his practice will immediately impact PHS in the most positive of manners. I urge you all to give him a Spartan welcome when you cross his path!

In addition, we have entered into two progressive partnerships this year that will guide our professional learning in how student wellness translates into student academic success. First, we will begin a three year cycle with The United Way Youth Empowerment Alliance. Among a variety of other tasks, the Alliance will assist with the creation of need assessment surveys for parents, staff, and students. The information gleaned from those surveys will act as the backbone for sustainable, positive behavior programming intended to improve the overall wellness of all stakeholders at PHS. Our second partnership is with SAGE Thrive. This partnership will provide us with in-house wellness services for the entire community. Along with the already nurturing and rigorous environment that we deliver, I am confident that both of these progressive additions to PHS will increase the emotional, social, and academic lives of our students.

Please note that we cannot reach the highest levels of success without creating the very important connection between school and family. As students progress through their high school years, we must continue to embrace our position as their role models. Together we must celebrate their successes and, when necessary, redirect them with dignity. I urge you to strike that delicate balance of allowing your teenage children to be autonomous while at the same time maintaining oversight on their decisions, behaviors, and choices.

Please take a moment to read my message in its entirety for important information about Chromebooks, student schedules, back to school night, and other information you don't want to miss.

It is an honor to serve this community.
